I look exactly that good when I wake up in the morning.
I’m a big fan of breakfast. I adore breakfast food. But it’s not just the food, it’s starting my day with a big, civilized, thoughtful meal (well, five days a week anyway). I tried a trendy diet in January where you can eat whatever you want, but only for eight hours. In order to not go to bed hungry, I tried doing this from noon-8pm. Even though I was losing weight, I gave it up after two weeks, because I missed eating breakfast!
The people behind the genius “Got Milk?” campaign launched The Breakfast Project last year, and my favorite part of the site is the recipe section. There’s some fantastic stuff there. Even my picky Jake loved the fish-less breakfast sushi (the name almost scared him off, but it’s fruit-based!), and the mini frittatas are great because you can make them ahead.
The latest Milk Mustache spokesperson, Katie Couric, has a cute new Milk Mustache ad out:
According to Katie, “When you’re adding milk to your breakfast, you’re getting all sorts of added benefits. You’re getting protein when you put it in your cereal; you’re getting calcium when you add it to your coffee or just drinking a glass.”
In fact, an 8oz glass of milk has more protein than an egg! So if you think you need to cook a hot breakfast in the morning to get your protein, think again. Your milk is giving you protein, calcium, and vitamin D.
If you like coffee drinks, the Rivo brewing system from Keurig lets you put fresh milk into your cappuccino – it steams and froths it for you! So whether you get your milk in a mug, glass, or bowl, you win!
In fact, a study published in the Journal of American Clinical Nutrition indicated a relationship between the calcium and vitamin D in milk and long-term weight loss. I’ve never given up dairy in order to lose weight, and my results are speaking for themselves (twenty-one pounds in the last twenty weeks, thank you very much!).
Questions for Katie?
I’ll be showing off my breakfast-eating skills (seriously, I could go pro) tomorrow morning when I have breakfast with Katie. Do you have any questions for her? I’m happy to try to pass them along!
I wish I could bring all of you to breakfast, but since I can’t, Katie will be participating in a digital breakfast tomorrow (Wednesday) morning at 9:15 on twitter, where she’ll be answering questions and talking about the importance of starting her day with protein-packed milk. Just follow and use the hashtag #KatieTalksMilk to participate!
