Falling off a Segway…yup, I did (Saturday)

Cruisin’ Disney Style

disney_wonderIt’s time to hate me.  In one week I’m going on a Disney Cruise.  It’s a short one, three nights, but it will be three nights without kids and husband – I’ll happily take it!

A couple months ago, an acquaintance of mine (and amazing woman), Maria Bailey (founder of BSM Media), asked me if I wanted to go on a Disney Cruise to the Bahamas.  I had heard rumblings ever since I had started this blog that Disney had a habit of inviting mom bloggers on vacation (on their dime!), and naturally I was insanely jealous.  But now it’s my turn.

The other bloggers coming along on this trip are:

  • Don’t Try This At Home – Melanie
  • My Brown Baby – Denene
  • Skimbaco Lifestyle – Katja
  • Traveling Mom – Kim
  • To Think Is To Create – Arianne
  • My Teen, The Alien – Maria
  • And a special thanks to Melanie – I read her post about the cruise and totally scraped that blogger list from her site instead of looking up the links myself. :-)

So, we’ll be getting on The Disney Wonder early for a private lunch with some Disney people, and then heading off for a day in Nassau and another day on Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island in the Bahamas.  I’ve read reviews and a lot of people have said that the trip is worth it just to go to the private island!

In typical Amy fashion, I somehow got the idea that we were going to Bermuda, so that’s what I told everyone when I went home over Christmas break.  But that wouldn’t make much sense, since their private island is in the Bahamas!  I checked over all of my old emails about the trip, and nobody ever mentioned Bermuda.  I have no idea where I got that from.  But we’ll definitely be going to the Bahamas, which will be warmer than Bermuda.  I don’t like really hot weather, but it will be welcome given the chill NYC has been in lately.

SegwayWhen we’re in Nassau several of us will be taking a tour on Segways, those two-wheeled things that you steer by leaning.  I’ve always wanted to go on one!  We’ve taken cruises before, and our excursions have usually been more active – kayaking, biking – to counteract the effects of the ridiculous amount of eating that goes on.  But I’m in the mood for lazy.

I have to admit, it does feel a little weird to be going on a Disney Cruise without kids, but I’m guessing they want us to be able to focus without the distractions of kids.  I have absolutely no problem going away without my kids, but it’s usually to a casino, or on a “grown up” cruise.  In fact, I spend a lot of cruise time in the casino, and The Disney Wonder doesn’t have a casino!  But I love Disney, so I can’t wait, and I’m glad that I’ll be able to try the ship out on my own.

This trip will make my “work week” next week very crunched – I have to get all of the Famplosion.com stuff done in the beginning of the week so that I don’t have to worry about it on the ship!  I love working from home and controlling my own schedule, but it takes a level of time management that I haven’t used in a while!
