More Discovery Kids Winners!
Dec 12, 2008 Product Giveaway, Product Review
And the fantastic Discovery Kids giveaway continues!
The winners of the Discovery Voice-Activated Biometric Safe are:
And the winners of the Discovery Amazing Money Jar Bank are:
OK, look at those winners again, I know it looks suspicious. Three of the four winners were exactly the same, in the same order, on both contests, even though their entries were in a different order on each contest and I drew different numbers for each contest. And what makes it even more suspicious is that one of them is my sister (but trust me, if I were going to funnel free stuff to her I would wait until I were giving a way a car or a Wii or something, not toys – she doesn’t even have kids!). But randomness cannot be controlled! There weren’t a whole lot of entries for these two contests and there were several people who were very good about entering every day. So, let that be a lesson to you!
Our final contest this week will be starting shortly, for four Discovery Deluxe Touch Screen ATM Machine! Aren’t the folks at Discovery Kids great? The hold-up is that I wanted to film a demonstration of the ATM because it’s so cool, but my son has wisely hidden his ATM card. D’oh! I’ll check his room one more time…
Congratulations to our winners, and thanks to everyone who entered. Whether you won or not, Discovery Kids has some great items on their site, so please check them out. In fact, last year someone not connected with Discovery Kids in any way gave my son the Remote Control Moon In My Room, and he adores it (he sleeps with the remote under his pillow in case he wakes up in the middle of the night and wants to turn it on).
They have a bunch of items on sale right now, including a few from my giveaways. In fact, I just noticed that you can get a “party pack” of the Discovery Amazing Money Jar Bank that I just gave away: you get ten of the jars of $99.99! That’s about 1/3 off of their regular price. What a great party favor that would make! I spend almost that much making up stupid favor bags filled with crap that get thrown out as soon as they get home anyway.
So, please thank Discovery Kids for my great giveaways by shopping at their online store. And stop back sometime today to enter to win your very own ATM!

Discovery Kids: a gaggle of winners!
Dec 11, 2008 Product Giveaway
The past 24 hours in blog land have sucked. Over the past few days, things have been going wrong with my site. Things that one-by-one would not have bothered me too much, but they were piling up and driving me nuts. So I decided to upgrade to the latest version of WordPress and see if that solved anything.
The upgrade was actually not too bad, and did solve all of the other problems. But of course it created new ones, so I had to put all of those fires out. At the same time, I tried doing the exact same upgrade on Filming In Brooklyn, and it did not go well. I don’t really know why, they were both WordPress blogs running the same old version.
Anyway, all seems to be well now, so I can finally get back to announcing the winners of the contests!
The four winners of the Discovery Paper Recycling Studio are:
The four winners of the Spark Talking Globe are:
The four winners of the Keep Safe Diary are:
- jen
- jarred g
- bonggamom
- Occupation: Mommy
Congratulations to all, and thanks to everyone who entered. There are still two Discovery Kids contests running and I’ll be adding one more tomorrow. Tomorrow’s prize is the biggest, and it will only be a one-day thing, so stop by!
Thanks Discovery Kids!

Giveaway Overdrive: Discovery Voice-Activated Biometric Safe
Dec 10, 2008 Product Giveaway, Product Review
Discovery Kids sent me one of these for my son, and I set it up to try it out myself and make sure it works. It was the closest I’ve ever felt to being on an episode of 24 – or possibly the original Star Trek.
You set up the Discovery Voice-Activated Biometric Safe with a secret word that you pick, and then next time you want to open the safe, you have to say that word. And don’t worry, if you forget the word (like I did, twice) there’s a way to reset it. I know Pasta Boy is going to dig this. Just the thing he needs with a snoopy little sister around. Even if she heard what the word was, her voice wouldn’t open the safe!
Here it is in action:
You know the drill by now. Discovery Kids has been unbelievably generous, and has given me four of these to give to you (each a $29.95 value). To enter, just leave a comment on this post saying what toy you like from The Discovery Store.
Entries must be received by noon eastern on Friday, December 12th. Four winners will each win a Discovery Voice-Activated Biometric Safe. Any comments received after noon eastern on December 12th will not count! The winners will be chosen at random by random.org. Only mailing addresses in the U.S. are eligible. Only one entry per person per day please. I’ll say that again: you can answer once per day! To see the full rules, please go here.
Good luck!
Don’t forget the other giveaways running right now. Check the “Current Giveaways” box in the upper right-hand corner of the page.
